A Highland road plan is an approach-specific decision. The destination name does not tell you which roads, fords or vehicle restrictions apply.
Use a route ledger
List each numbered road in travel order, current official status, vehicle permission, known crossing evidence, services and turnaround option. Ask the rental operator about those exact roads and the treatment of water damage; a general 4x4 label is not sufficient.
Different ways to reach a hiking area
Compare self-driving with an established operator's transport when the approach exceeds your vehicle or experience. Check the actual departure, return and cancellation terms before booking the hike around it. Turning around is the correct outcome when conditions invalidate the plan.
Use official road conditions, weather warnings and SafeTravel. Historic trip reports are not current access permission.
